Bolting and testing for high-pressure gas
Gas processing plants around Abqaiq, Al Ahsa and Haradh, and the separation plants that feed them, use many ring-type and high-class raised-face joints. Uneven bolt load or a worn ring groove is enough to cause a leak at these pressures.
We usually tension high-pressure gas joints for an even load, re-cut worn ring grooves with portable flange facing machines, and finish with a nitrogen-helium leak test before gas is introduced.
Before work starts and before start-up, our nitrogen purging crews gas free and inert the system, with every reading recorded.

Why tension gas plant joints instead of torquing?
High-pressure joints with many large studs need even load, and tensioning loads several studs at once with little effect from friction.
Can you re-cut RTJ grooves on site?
Yes. We re-machine ring grooves in place and gauge them before a new ring gasket is fitted.
Do you leak test before gas is introduced?
Yes. We can carry out nitrogen or nitrogen-helium leak tests on every joint we have tightened.
